Pairs Shield 2014

Sunday 28th September - Cley

What a difference a week makes in fishing. Following the previous week’s excellent return this week we were brought back to earth with a bump. No crashing waves, no white horses, water just lapping the beach, fishermen and walkers in t-shirts and even some late summer bathers. Not many of us this week with several members in Ireland with the Daiwa pairs. Draw made and off we went on a pleasant warm Sunday morning. It would be 2 hours before a fish was seen a glorious 22cm sand eel by the Silver Fox, John Neave, quickly followed by a double shot of dabs by Mike Watts aka Last Cast from a clip down rig as far as he could possibly chuck it. That was it for another 30 minutes. Then another double shot to Last Cast and a small run of fish, 2 in 2 for Dick Ellis and then a 27cm flounder for the Fox with a couple of undersized flounders for Ex-Captain, Richard Ellis. But it seemed to be Last Cast’s extra distance that was making the difference as he continued to haul in fish on a regular basis right through to the end of the match. Dick thought he had managed a fish in the dying minutes only to discover he had hauled in Silver Fox’s gear which had a dab on it. Ex Captain then managed another undersize flounder, well I think that is what he called it, it started with ‘f’ any way. Thankfully for all the final cast could not come soon enough and with Ivan ‘the Consultant’ Allison finally catching he equalled the biggest fish of the day to match with Last Cast’s 28 cm flounder. Last Cast kept to his name and managed a dab just to rub salt in. Podium finishes as follows with the fox laying claim to the biggest round fish of the day with his 22cm sand eel.

2nd John Neave   15oz     (3 Fish)
